Before his career as a solo artist, Mike Doughty fronted the experimental rock band Soul Coughing. The genre-bending group developed a massive cult-following and flirted with mainstream success before disbanding in 2000 . Since then, Doughty has toured extensively behind solo material, collaborated with the likes of BT and They Might Be Giants, and released several volumes of poetry and prose.  Throughout, Mike has received consistent critical praise for his emotive, free-form lyrics. His latest albums include Live at Ken’s House and 2014’s Stellar Motel.

Patreon has changed my life because it lets me pursue doing what I love… Just weeks before I launched on Patreon, my boss called me into her office and chewed me out for being 15 minutes late to office hours. She said that although I had a baby, it had been "long enough" and it was time to "start acting professional again, and to focus on my career." She was right. I launched on Patreon and was able to quit that job.
