How to Use Special Offers to Boost Your Launch on Patreon

You might even start thinking about the best ways to celebrate... maybe even share this feeling, this moment? Maybe you're inspired to do more to quickly grow your membership?

What is a Special Offer? A Special Offer is a marketing and business tool you can use to boost fan engagement, and increase your earnings. You create and promote a benefit — a digital reward, insider access, merch — that is only available for a limited time.

If you decide to run a Special Offer right as you launch, you can position this limited time benefit as something extra special, a super exclusive reward for your very biggest fans who become patrons before anyone else.

Special Offers can be anything you want; you choose what the benefit is, based on what you think will get your first fans super excited. Maybe a celebratory “I was one of the first patrons” pin or sticker would entice your audience. Perhaps a special dedication or a personal ‘thank you’ video would go over well for the folks who want to be recognized by you. If you have fans who might go for an upper tier, you could even offer one-on-one session with you, a phone call or livestream.

How long should I run a Special Offer for? The length of a Special Offer really depends on your goals. When used as a tool to boost earnings during a period of stalled growth, we recommend running a special offer for two weeks to a month. If you’re using a special offer as an incentive for existing patrons to pledge to a higher tier, you may consider a longer period of time.

When running a special offer as part of your launch it is best to generate a more immediate buzz. Try keeping the special offer between a few days to a week long. Of course, you can always prolong the period if it makes sense to you. Just make sure to properly communicate with your fans why you chose to extend a limited time benefit... you don't want fans who jumped at the chance to join to get annoyed knowing they could have waited. You can always run another Special Offer in a month or so.
