We Screwed up and We’re Sorry: More Context on the Billing Section of Our Recent Product Update

An update on proposed billing changes

We’re here to say we’re sorry. Sometimes, intent doesn’t match up with impact, and our recent blog post, which was meant to keep you informed about future product updates, didn’t land well–specifically the part about how and when patrons are billed.

You’re running your business on our platform and trusting us with your livelihoods. That means we need rock-solid communication–better than what we rolled out yesterday. Our hope was to be transparent and bring you along into our product development process. Instead we created confusion, so we’re trying again.

Patron billing has come up as a top issue for creators and patrons for years. Please know, we’re not going to roll out any changes without including you every step of the way and ensuring that it works for you and your business.

We have been in active conversation with hundreds of creators related to patron billing and we want your ongoing input. These are early days of our collaborative development process and no final decisions have been made.

There are three ways we’d like to connect and build with you right now:

  1. Share your thoughts on billing in this thread in our creator forum

  2. Fill out this product survey

  3. Join an “Ask Me Anything” with our CEO Jack Conte and members of Patreon’s executive team on Reddit today to answer all of your questions

These discussions will shape how we build a solution going forward and we’re 100% committed to including you every step of the way. Stay tuned for a lot more communication to come!
